DRI held its 15th Annual Meeting in San Diego from October 20-24, 2010. In addition to a series of prominent keynote addresses and extensive networking opportunities, DRI substantive law and practice area committees also held business meetings that included CLE presentations.
The Insurance Law Committee presented a panel discussion on the topic of "A New Decade's Headaches—What Keeps Insurance Executives Awake at Night?" A former insurance partner served as the moderator, and the panelists were George Pavarini (Swiss Reinsurance America Corp.), John McCarthy (Farmers Insurance Group), Maureen Willett (State Farm Insurance Company), and Mark Haapala (Devonshire Group).
The Law Practice Management Committee presented a panel discussion on the topic of "At the Crossroads of Pessimism and Opportunity—Lessons Learned from the Legal Recession." Firm Managing Partner Dion Cominos was a panelist, along with Thomas S. Clay (Altman Weil Inc.), Melvin J. Malone (Miller & Martin PLLC), and moderator David W. Zizik (Zizik Powers O'Connell Spaulding & Lamontagne PC).
Jack "Skip" McCowan, as chair of the Drug and Medical Device Committee, chaired a well-attended business meeting of the committee which included a CLE program on the Medicare Secondary Payer Act.
Employment Partner Mike Lucey, current member of the Board of Directors of DRI and former president of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, and Associate Marie Trimble also participated in the event. Ms. Trimble is on the Steering Committee of the Young Lawyers and Employment Law Committees, and was recently appointed to participate on the Public Service Committee.
