Rosemary Carson, a partner in Gordon & Rees's Construction Group, is the featured speaker on June 22 at the Orange County Chapter of the National Assocation of Women in Construction meeting. Ms. Carson will be speaking on: Green Building Construction: Best Practices To Mitigate Your Company's Liability Through Educated Bidding Strategies and Negotiation of Specific Contract Clauses.
Among the issues Ms. Carson will address are:
-
Can the owner withhold retention until LEED certification is achieved, even if that dates is months after projection completion?
-
Could the owner hold your company responsible for lost tax credits/utility rebates, violation of local green ordinances/building codes, construction/tenant financing or leases lost because of a failure to achieve the specified certification level?
-
If the ultimate building tenant was sold on "green" marketing promises, and claims these have not been met, is your company at risk?
-
Could your insurance carrier refuse to cover these losses?
The NAWC meeting will be at McCormick & Schmick's Restaurant in Santa Ana from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
