Gordon & Rees congratulates Sacramento Partner Lawrence Garcia for being installed as a member of the Board of Directors to serve as Legal Counsel for the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce (SACC). The induction ceremony took place during SACC's 18th Annual Installation and Awards Dinner on February 24, 2011. Gordon & Rees also co-sponsored the event. The dinner honored businesses that have shown exceptional commitment and dedication to the Sacramento community. Congresswoman Doris Matsui was a presenter at the dinner.
Sacramento business and community leaders also attended the Dinner to celebrate another year of success and to recognize the 2011 honorees, sisters Lisa and Laura Ling. Lisa is a field correspondent for The Oprah Winfrey Show, a contributor to ABC News' Nightline and National Geographic's Explorer, and a former co-host of The View. She is launching her own series on the OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network called INSIDE with Lisa Ling. Lisa is also the co-author of "Mother, Sister. Daughter, Bride: Rituals of Womanhood" and "Somewhere Inside: One Sister's Captivity in North Korea and The Other's Fight to Bring Her Home," which she penned with her sister. Laura is the host and reporter on "E! Investigates" and served as Vice President of Current TV's journalism department. In March 2009, while reporting on the trafficking of North Korean women, Ling was detained by North Korean soldiers along the Chinese-North Korean border and held captive for 140 days.
The SACC is the largest and most influential ethnic chamber of commerce in Northern California and is open to all businesses and organizations, regardless of ethnicity. Membership is comprised of individuals and businesses from many different sectors working together to promote, nurture and propel economic growth in the region.
