On Oct. 10, Gordon & Rees San Francisco partner Margie Lariviere will speak at the State Bar of California 86th Annual Meeting on the topic, “Protecting Your Practice: Managing Risks From All Directions."
The presentation, to be held at the McEnery San Jose Convention Center from 4:15 - 5:15 p.m., will discuss insurance basics, risk mitigation through the purchase of individual and business policies, and how to respond to and deal with claims. The State Bar Board of Trustees recently reappointed Lariviere to serve on the Committee on Group Insurance Programs (COGIP), which is sponsoring the presentation.
Lariviere brings a unique business perspective to her coverage and defense work, having worked thirteen years as a litigator and six years in-house with AAA Insurance, where she held corporate law and claims department leadership roles. Lariviere represents insurance companies in disability, life and ERISA lawsuits. She has successfully tried several life and disability insurance bad-faith cases in state and federal court and has achieved excellent results in obtaining dismissal of extra-contractual claims for bad faith and punitive damages through summary judgment. Lariviere also has extensive experience resolving cases through mediation and serves as a Mandatory Settlement Conference officer for the San Francisco Superior Court.
