Partners Christopher Strunk and Sarah Turner to Present at Industrial Hemp Employment Webinar

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani Oakland partner and Cannabis, Hemp & CBD practice group leader, Christopher Strunk, and Seattle partner Sarah Turner will present “COVID-19 Blueprint: The Industrial Hemp Employer’s Obligations to its Employees During a Pandemic.” The event, presented as a partnership between the National Industrial Hemp Council and Gordon & Rees, will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at noon Eastern.

This webinar will examine the impacts of COVID-19 and the implications for employers within the hemp industry. COVID-19 remains rampant in the United States, and for employers this means taking on the overwhelming responsibility of ensuring that the workplace is safe for all employees and mitigating the risk of exposure. For employers in the Industrial Hemp sphere – many of whom have only been employers since 2018 – the challenge poses an existential threat to continuing to do business. This presentation will look at emerging workplace issues related to COVID-19, and provide guidance and best practices for both new and long-term employers while navigating these unique challenges and ensuring that the employees are kept safe and healthy.

Strunk has represented clients in the industrial hemp and cannabis sector since 2014, assisting companies in complying with state environmental laws, managing downstream risk, and defending them in high-stakes product liability litigation. He is nationally recognized for his work on the environmental issues facing the cannabis industry, including litigation risks, state regulations, and agency enforcement. He is a leader of the Gordon & Rees Cannabis, Hemp & CBD practice group one of the largest and deepest practices in the country. He is also a member of the firm’s Environmental/Toxic Tort, Commercial Litigation, and Entertainment practice groups and has more than twenty years of experience litigating complex environmental and toxic tort disputes.

Turner is a partner with the Employment and Cannabis practice groups in the Seattle and Portland office of Gordon & Rees. She litigates in state and federal trial and appellate courts. Her practice also includes counseling, training, and representing clients on a broad range of employment law issues, including hiring, review, and termination procedures, workplace investigations, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour law. Her practice with the Cannabis group includes counseling and training employers on state regulations and how to navigate their respective medicinal and recreational cannabis laws, reviewing and drafting drug and alcohol policies, and representing businesses and individuals in cannabid-related breach of contract and partnership disputes.
