Leon Silver to Serve as Panelist for San Francisco Bar Association’s 2020 Diversity Conference

Leon Silver, managing partner of the Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani's Phoenix office, will serve as a panelist for “Belonging in 2020: How Organizations & Law Firms Can Dismantle Toxic Cultures and Build Inclusive Environments,” at the San Francisco Bar Association’s 2020 Diversity Conference & Awards on December 10, 2020. This event will be held virtually.

The panel will discuss how organizations and law firms can effectively and thoughtfully discuss race, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and disability in the workplace, and why these discussions are essential. The panel will examine methods for identifying toxic work cultures that impact attorneys from underrepresented groups, practical steps leaders can take to build a sense of belonging for attorneys and other professionals in their organizations or law firms, and how effective law firms and in-house diversity committees and upper management are addressing these issues. This discussion will go beyond the typical recommendations for unconscious bias training, and aims to get at the root of the “other” causes that push underrepresented attorneys out of law firms and organizations.

Silver will be joined by Mary Ellen Connerty, Director of Diversity & Engagement of O'Melveny & Myers, Rosevelie Marquez Morales, Diversity & Inclusion Director-America of Hogan Lovells, Alison Nelson, Managing Counsel, Co-Chair, Diversity & Inclusion Committee of Ford Motor Company, Paul Rivera of Google, and James Williams, Associate General Counsel of Snap, Inc.

A leading force in achieving the firm's diversity and inclusion goals, Silver is the firm's National Practice Group leader for the Retail & Hospitality and Government Regulatory & Administrative Law practice groups. A member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Silver has more than 30 years’ experience handling complicated business and real estate related disputes.
