USCIS To Start the Fiscal Year 2024 H-1B Visa Lottery

On January 27, 2023 the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) announced that it will start the registration period for the H-1B Cap for the 2024 fiscal year starting March 1 through March 17, 2023. USCIS will notify the employers selected for the lottery by March 31.

During the registration period, employers and their legal representatives will be able to register in order to participate in the upcoming lottery if they wish to sponsor a foreign national to work temporarily in the United States under the H-1B program.

The H-1B program allows an employer to petition the USCIS to permit an employer in the United State to hire a skilled foreign worker in a professional or specialty occupation (that requires at least a bachelor’s degree or higher in the related area).

If employers are considering potential employees not currently able to lawfully work in the United States, Gordon & Rees’ Immigration Practice Group may be able to help determine the eligibility of a potential employee before the registration period begins, and thereafter assist with the registration process and the preparation of the H-1B petition, if selected.
