Matthew T. Wise is a Partner in the Detroit office of GRSM, where he focuses his primarily litigation-centric practice in the defense of labor and employment disputes/litigation and municipal matters. This practice includes extensive practice and appearances with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and the National Labor Relations Board. His employment litigation practice also involves appearance in all phases of litigation regarding claims of discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation, employment hiring practices, non-compete and non-solicit agreements, and issues involving Michigan Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, Title VII, ADEA, ADA, and related state and federal statutes, as well as general consulting, training, and consulting for employers. Knowledgeable in all phases of complex litigation, Matthew also has extensive experience in the areas of class action litigation, estate planning, business consulting, premises liability and product liability litigation, dram shop, automobile/no-fault defense and general civil litigation.
- In re Flint Water Litigation (obtained summary judgment on behalf of client in class action and individual claims pursued by over 50,000 individuals relative to the City of Flint’s water supply).
- Bellefant v. Matrix Human Services (obtained summary disposition on behalf of client as to ten-claims providing valuable Head Start community services related to prior employee investigation and resignation).
- Bridges v. Melton and Muskegon Family Services (obtained summary disposition on behalf of client in wrongful termination claims and discrimination claims).
- Washington v. Kalamazoo Garden Solutions (obtained summary judgment on federal discrimination and failure to promote claims on behalf of employer).
- Currently involved in class action litigation related to Michigan Property Tax Foreclosure matters in federal court.
- Dixon v. City of Roseville, et. al. (obtained summary judgment in federal civil rights/harassment case).
- Birch Run Area Convention and Visitors’ Bureau v. Saginaw County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau and Saginaw County (obtained voluntary dismissal of dispute between convention and visitors’ bureaus over County tax dollar allocation).
- Jones v. James-Martin Chevrolet (obtained favorable settlement in an employment discrimination case).
