Alex Hill is a commercial litigator who defends businesses, employers, nonprofits, insurers, and other organizations in disputes throughout Oregon and Washington. As a former police officer and claims professional for a large insurance company, Alex brings a unique perspective to each case. In addition to his extensive experience handling insurance claims litigation, he is sought after in employment defense cases, including the representation of private universities for claims involving students and employees, as well as complex commercial disputes. Clients appreciate that he listens, asks meaningful questions, and works to understand their business, ensuring their story is voraciously told and heard.
Alex’s background in criminal and insurance investigations provides him with advanced training and experience in interviewing, investigations, and negotiations beyond the traditional attorney. He knows what to look for and does not hesitate to ask tough questions or challenge contradictions. Alex enjoys leveraging this nontraditional background to provide his clients with a distinct, think-outside-the-box approach to evaluations, analysis, and options for resolution.
In law school, Alex interned with the New York State Department of Insurance, Executive Offices, where he clerked for the Special Prosecutor, focusing on criminal prosecution of insurance fraud claims throughout New York. He also researched and drafted advisory opinions on various insurance-related topics. Additionally, Alex interned with his law school’s Low Income Taxpayer’s Clinic, where he represented clients with federal and state tax liabilities under a student practice order. He received the Albany Law Clinic & Justice Center Award for his work there. Alex actively participated in moot court and, in 2013, was ranked in the top third of the Northeast Region Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court competitors. Alex was also Editor-in-Chief of International Law Studies, an online academic forum for the publication of international and comparative law studies.
