Biography

Cara M. Swindlehurst is a Partner in the Detroit office of GRSM. Cara handles a wide range of matters on behalf of employers, utility companies, professional agencies, municipalities, transportation companies, and insurance companies. She has experience in commercial litigation, including products liability, labor and employment, construction, business and contractual disputes, professional liability, 42 USC § 1983, Title IX, RICO and cannabis litigation and consultation.  Cara assists clients in achieving resolution in pre-litigation matters where possible, and furthers her clients’ interests throughout the entire litigation process including state and federal agency investigations, depositions, expert discovery and depositions, trial preparation, and trial attendance.

Cara litigates within Michigan and federal trial and appellate courts to advance the interests of her commercial clients.  In addition to advocating on behalf of her clients, Cara organizes pro bono initiatives within the Detroit office.  She is active within the Detroit Bar Association community, and has been recognized within the same for her efforts. Cara also maintains a board of director volunteer position with the Notre Dame Club of Detroit.

Prior to law school, Cara worked in Michigan’s Executive Office, where she drafted amendments to Michigan statutes and the State Constitution, and drafted policies for the state and the City of Detroit. During law school, she also served as a law clerk at the Michigan Attorney General’s Office in the Consumer Protection and Corporate Oversight divisions, where she worked on policy implementation and communicated with Fortune 500 oil companies regarding a possible antitrust concern with gas prices. While in law school, Cara interned for the University of Notre Dame's General Counsel's Office and for a legal aid clinic. Cara is the author of “Resolution Mechanisms to Combat Financial Pressures within Colleges and Universities,” The Journal of College and University Law, NACUA, Volume 41, Issue 2 (2015).
