Dan Brees is a Partner in the Minneapolis Office of GRSM.  He is a member of the Employment Law, Professional Liability Defense, and Commercial Litigation practice groups.  Dan has extensive experience litigating a broad range of commercial issues, including contract disputes, secured transactions, statutory violations, and commercial torts.  He also has a broad range of experience litigating employment claims.  

Prior to law school, Dan was a Certified Public Accountant and gained valuable experience working in public accounting.  Drawing from both his litigation and accounting experience, he is committed to providing his clients business-driven legal advice to achieve the best possible outcome for his clients.  

  • Defended a Special Litigation Committee’s exercise of its business judgment and obtained a unanimous affirmance from a three-judge panel at the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and successfully opposed a petition for certiorari to U.S. Supreme Court.
  • Obtained summary judgment on behalf of defendant in negligence action involving an aircraft accident in federal court.  
  • Represented Special Litigation Committee during a 21-month investigation of shareholder derivative claims and obtained dismissal of shareholder derivative claims against Fortune 500 company.
  • Obtained favorable settlement on behalf of a bank in enforcing the bank’s priority rights for purchase money security interest under Uniform Commercial Code.
