Mark Preiss is Senior Counsel in the Boston office of GRSM and is a member of the Employment Practice Group.
Mark's Employment and Labor practice focuses on employers and includes a hybrid of counseling and litigation. This includes employer-side representation before state and federal courts, as well as administrative agencies, in defending against employment law claims involving discrimination, hostile work environment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and sexual harassment. Mark’ practice has also included labor grievance hearings and negotiating claims involving non-compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
Mark also counsels businesses on effective employment law risk management strategies and provides guidance on application of company policies and compliance with federal and state employment statutes, including the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, among others. He regularly counsels employers on hiring practices, terminations, workplace investigations, reductions in work force issues, and litigation avoidance practices.
Mark has conducted dozens of in-person trainings and webinars on employment law topics for businesses, including but not limited to identifying and preventing harassment and discrimination in the workplace, pay equity and gender discrimination, and medical leaves of absence. Mark has also completed training with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) concerning prevention of discrimination in the workplace, including hiring, termination, benefits, and performance evaluations. Mark also prepares contracts, vendor agreements, employment agreements, employee handbooks, and has negotiated the resolution of claimed breaches of non-compete/non-disclosure agreements.
Mark’s civil litigation practice also includes complex litigation defense in state and federal courts for claims covering contract, tort, commercial real estate, professional liability, and insurance issues, including outlining litigation plans targeted at efficient, cost-effective resolution of claims.
