Sonia Chen is an Associate in the Los Angeles office of GRSM, where she focuses her practice on a wide range of complex commercial litigation disputes in state and federal courts. Sonia has experience representing companies, ranging from international corporations to start-ups, and individuals. She has represented clients in the real estate, construction, technology, insurance, software development, and retail sectors in various facets of litigation. She routinely handles matters involving contractual disputes, business torts, professional negligence, fraud, and unfair competition. She also gained insights in litigating international disputes and in conducting discovery abroad.
Sonia is dedicated to make every effort to thoroughly understand her clients’ unique circumstances and the intricacies of their respective industries. She recognizes the value in ensuring her clients understand the legal process and is determined to make an adversarial system as cordial and constructive as possible. Her international upbringing gives her a composed and levelheaded demeanor to effectively communicate and collaborate with clients and the adversary. She has achieved favorable rulings and amicable settlements including in high-exposure cases.
Sonia obtained her J.D. from Southwestern Law School. While in law school, she clerked at the Sunrider International Corporation, the Office of the General Counsel of the Los Angeles Unified School District, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, in the White Collar Crimes Division. She served as the Academic Chair of the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association and participated in international law summer programs at the University of British Columbia and the University College of London. Sonia received her undergraduate degree, cum laude, in International Studies from the University of California, Irvine. She was a member of Sigma Iota Rho, the International Studies Honors Society, and interned in wealth management at Merrill Lynch.
Sonia is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and conversational in French. When not in office, Sonia can be found traveling overseas and spending time with her family by the vineyards in Burgundy, France.
