DRI's weekly newsletter, The Voice, profiled Mike Lucey this week for a defense verdict he obtained on behalf of Stanford University. The lawsuit, a wrongful termination action, was brought by a former employee of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, alleging he was wrongfully terminated based on race and in retaliation for whistle blowing. He also alleged that Stanford breached his employment contract because the University did not have good cause to terminate him.
The plaintiff was terminated by Stanford for violating the University's harassment policy. After the plaintiff rested his case, Mr. Lucey successfully moved for non-suit on the plaintiff's race discrimination claim, and a jury then returned a verdict in favor of the defense on the plaintiff's retaliation and breach of contract claims.
