Elizabeth Lorell Elected a Vice-President of FDCC and Receives John Alan Appleman Award

Elizabeth Lorell, a partner in the New Jersey and New York offices of Gordon & Rees, was elected as a Vice President (2011-2012) of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (FDCC) at the organization's July 2011 Annual Meeting.  The FDCC is an organization of recognized leaders in the legal community who have achieved professional distinction and are dedicated to the representation of insurers and corporations.  The FDCC promotes knowledge, fellowship, and professionalism of its members as they pursue the course of a balanced justice system and represent those in need of a defense in civil lawsuits.  Membership is by invitation only following an extensive peer review selection process.

In addition, Ms. Lorell was awarded the John Alan Appleman Award which honors the Chair of an FDCC Substantive Law Section who has made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the FDCC's education goals through the work of his or her Section.  Presented annually since 1984, the award carries the name of the late John Alan Appleman, a distinguished and widely recognized insurance law scholar who served as the President of the FDCC in 1950-1952.  Ms. Lorell was honored for her work as the Chair of the Employment Practices and Workplace Liability Section, a position she will continue to hold in addition to her election to Vice President position for 2011-2012.   

During the past year, Ms. Lorell has been a presenter at numerous FDCC conferences and has co-authored the following articles for the FDCC Employment Practices and Workplace Liability Section, which address cutting-edge employment related issues.

Ms. Lorell also previously served as a Vice-Chair of the E-Discovery Task Force Committee of the FDCC and co-authored the Committee's "E-Discovery Survival Manual."  She is currently Co-Chair of the E-Discovery Practice at Gordon & Rees LLP.
