San Francisco Partner Carol Copsey and Senior Counsel Rachel Pusey participated as discussion group leaders in the Color of Justice program, an annual high school outreach event presented by the National Association of Women Judges that encourages young minority and women students to consider a career in law or the judiciary. The November 14th event was sponsored by the Queen's Bench Bar Association and California Women Lawyers, organizations that promote the advancement of women in the legal profession. Carol served on the organizing committee for the event, is a Past President of CWL and continues to serve on the Board of the CWL Foundation.
Notable judges and attorneys addressed over 80 students from Balboa High School at the Milton Marks Conference Center in the Hiram Johnson State Building in San Francisco. Students had the rare and informative opportunity to learn from a diverse, experienced and dynamic panel of attorneys and judges about law school admission requirements and process, their reasons for pursuing a legal education and a career in law, and their personal experiences. Justice Goodwin Liu, the newest member of the California Supreme Court, was also a panelist who shared with the audience his path to law school, and his experience as a law school professor and then as a Justice.
Afterwards, the students were presented with arguments on a motion to suppress evidence and later discussed the mock case presentation in six small groups. The discussion groups were moderated and facilitated by Rachel Pusey and Carol Copsey.
