Law Week Colorado published an article by Gordon & Rees partner Franz Hardy and associate Nicole C. Salamander in its April 8 issue.
In the article, titled “Balancing Alternative Work Structures: How Limiting Them May Damper Diversity and Inclusion Efforts,” Hardy and Salamander discuss work-from-home policies and how they may impact diversity in the workplace.
“[O]n the one hand, alternative work structures such as working from home can facilitate the retention of talented diverse employees who have family or other obligations. These options enhance diversity and inclusion in the workplace by providing flexibility and support to workers,” the authors wrote. “On the other hand, one of the primary reasons to value diversity and inclusion is the opportunity for a diverse work force to communicate and collaborate with each other. Such communication and collaboration could be enhanced by requiring employees to have a physical presence at the office.”
Hardy, head of Gordon & Rees's Diversity Committee, practices business and insurance litigation. He also has successfully represented dozens of attorneys and law firms in professional liability matters. Hardy recently won the prestigious Richard Marden Davis Award in recognition of his excellence as a lawyer and his civic, cultural, educational, and charitable leadership.
Salamander, a member of the firm's Professional Liability Defense Practice Group, defends attorneys and directors and officers in professional liability matters. She also has represented insurers in ERISA cases. As a prior law clerk for two magistrate judges at the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, she has experience in court-facilitated mediation, federal case management, and a broad range of substantive areas of the law.
