Gordon & Rees partner Deborah A. Smith of San Francisco will chair the American Bar Association 23rd Annual Toxic Torts and Environmental Law Spring CLE Meeting. Smith, the program chair of the TTEL committee spring conference, will present the opening and closing remarks.
The April 3-5 conference will be held at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix. Titled “Hot Topics in Toxic Torts and Environmental Law,” it will provide programs focused on timely issues relating to the environment, energy, and mass and toxic torts, including food, asbestos and benzene litigation, vapor intrusion, and strategies for crisis management, among others.
Smith defends complex national product liability and business litigation claims. Her most recent cases involve defense of asbestos product and equipment manufacturers, aerospace and aviation product and equipment manufacturers, naval architects, friction defendants and premises owners. She has defended claims for asbestos, silica and benzene exposures against major manufacturing companies and oil companies and maritime personal injury suits against international shipping companies, as well as successfully represented clients in trial throughout California. Smith is the vice chair of the Toxic Tort and Environmental Law Committee of the ABA’s Trial Tort & Insurance Practice Section and previously served as a council member from 2008-2010.
