Denver senior counsel Lance Ream was interviewed and quoted in the August 17 edition of the Denver Business Journal. The interview was part of a special report on law firm diversity efforts entitled, “Reaching Toward Legal Diversity.”
Mr. Ream, who is the president of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA) of Colorado, stated that, “Recruiting diverse attorneys is only part of the equation. Equally as important…is fostering an inclusive culture. Thus, many firms and organizations have instituted inclusivity initiatives, such as implicit bias training, to help retain the diverse attorneys they recruit.” As to whether or not ranking firms by the number of minority attorneys fosters competition to recruit diverse candidates, he stated, “Firms have always competed to provide the best legal services and meet client needs. Diversity is part of that formula, but it is more than just a numbers game.”
In addition to his role in APABA of Colorado, Mr. Ream is a member of the Center for Legal Inclusiveness as well as the firm’s Diversity Committee. His practice focuses on a broad range of commercial litigation, ERISA, and professional liability.
