Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani was a sponsor of Equality California’s 2016 Equality Awards in Los Angeles on Friday, September 16, 2016. Equality California is the nation’s largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization.
Gordon & Rees attorneys were among almost 1,000 event attendees, including a wide array of leaders in the legal, business, and labor communities. Attendees also included several members of the United States Congress, dozens of members of the California Legislature, and many members of the Los Angeles City Council, among other political leaders.
California Attorney General Kamala Harris delivered the event’s keynote address and spoke about the importance of embracing diversity, protecting civil rights, and eliminating the gun violence epidemic. Equality California highlighted its legislative and advocacy work to prevent violence against members of the LGBT community, to ensure equal access to quality health care, and to prevent bullying in schools. Equality California gave three awards, including its State Farm Good Neighbor Award, to honorees who have worked to advance LGBT civil rights in California and across the United States.
