On May 4, 2017, the members of the Connecticut office attended the Connecticut Fair Housing Center's Ninth Annual Loving Civil Rights Awards Dinner to honor a colleague and their office. Hartford associate Sheldon Poole was selected as this year's "Loving Civil Rights Award" recipient for his outstanding and significant work for the Center and, once again, Gordon & Rees received the "George J. and Patricia K. Ritter Pro Bono Award." The event was attended by approximately 200 attendees and raised more than $20,000 to support the Center’s mission.
"Loving Civil Rights Award" was named for the couple that fought the ultimate form of housing discrimination when they were barred from living in Virginia because of their interracial marriage. The Connecticut Fair Housing annual Mildred and Richard "Loving Civil Rights Award" honors civil rights leaders and thinkers, those who have worked to change the course of history, those who have challenged how history is written, and those who are making history today.
Sheldon Poole is a member of Gordon & Rees's Insurance practice group. During law school, Mr. Poole worked as a clerk at a plaintiff’s litigation firm handling claims in the fields of insurance, employment, medical malpractice and personal injury law. He was also a legal intern at United Healthcare where he drafted and reviewed contracts, governmental obligations and provider agreements, as well as established a familiarity with HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, and other healthcare related regulations.
