New Jersey partner Elizabeth F. Lorell has been elected as Secretary-Treasurer of the prestigious Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (FDCC) for 2017-2018. She will serve as President-Elect in 2018-2019 and as the FDCC’s President in 2019–2020.
Founded in 1936, the FDCC is an international organization composed of the nation’s leaders in the legal community. Federation members have been judged by their peers to have achieved the highest in professional distinction, and are committed to promoting “Knowledge, Justice and Fellowship.” The over 1400 members of the FDCC include the top attorneys in private practice who specialize in civil defense litigation, as well as general counsel, risk managers and insurance claims examiners from throughout the world. The Federation is the premier organization for civil defense attorneys in the country and membership is by invitation after an extensive peer review selection process.
Lorell has served the FDCC in many capacities since becoming a member in 2005. She and her husband, Jeff Lorell, were the Convention Chairs for the 2014 Winter Meeting in Marco Island. Prior to this, she was the Program Chair for the 2013 San Antonio Winter Meeting. She has been a member of numerous FDCC Presidential Projects and Committees including the Strategic Planning Committee (Co-Chair), Resolutions Revisions Committee (Chair), ADR Masters Committee (Vice Chair) and the E-Discovery Project (Vice Chair). Lorell has also spoken at numerous meetings, has written multiple articles for the Federation (four of which have been published in the FDCC Quarterly) and served as Chair of the Employment Practices Section. In 2011, Lorell was the recipient of the John Alan Appleman Award for outstanding Section Chair for her work with the Employment Section. For the last six years, Lorell was elected to serve as a Director and Senior Director on the Federation’s Board of Directors.
"I am truly honored to be elected as Secretary/Treasurer of the FDCC," said Lorell. “Since my first meeting, I have experienced how our members make each other better, stronger and smarter together.” As Lorell begins her service as an Executive Officer, she proudly stated that she wears her membership in the Federation “as a badge of honor and always will!”
