Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani sponsored the 29th annual National Asian Pacific American Bar Association's (NAPABA) convention in Washington, D.C. from November 2-5, 2017. Gordon & Rees is an avid supporter of NAPABA and shares a focus on fostering diversity and inclusiveness with in the legal profession.
Seven Gordon & Rees attorneys attended the three day conference including Avanti Bakane and Lance Ream who currently serve on NAPABA's board, Gordon Endow, Serafin Tagarao, Patricia Lee-Gulley, Barbara O'Toole, and Julie Whitelock. During the conference, Bakane and Whitelock attended a meeting with Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi to discuss immigration, education, and the importance of having a voice.
Bakane also hosted a Central Region reception for NAPABA’s Midwest affiliates and was sworn in for the second year of her term as Central Regional Governor. Ream currently serves as Alternate Southwest Regional Governor and will serve as the next Southwest Regional Governor.
More than 2,100 Asian Pacific American (APA) attorneys, judges, law students, legal scholars, and elected officials from around the country attended the conference in Washington, D.C. The 2017 NAPABA Convention was the largest gathering of Asian Pacific American attorneys in the country and the 2017 Convention was the largest in NAPABA history.
Since its inception in 1988, NAPABA has been at the forefront of national and local activities in the areas of civil rights, combating anti-immigrant backlash and hate crimes, increasing the diversity of the federal and state judiciaries, and professional development.
