In addition to recently being named one of the 50 largest law firms by U.S. headcount, Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani has also been recognized as the 59th largest domestic firm by global headcount according to The National Law Journal's NLJ 500 annual survey of the world's largest law firms. This move represents an 18.5 percent increase and up 16 spots from the 2016 ranking, and places Gordon & Rees among the firms with most growth in the past year. Since the firm first appeared on the survey in 2013, it has steadily advanced more than 100 spots and has consistently been recognized among the fastest growing law firms in the nation.
The firm also ranked 40th on the NLJ Women in Law Scorecard which is six spots up from its ranking in 2016. Only the largest 350 firms that are part of the annual NLJ 500 annual survey are eligible for the Women's Scorecard. The Women in Law Score is determined by adding the percentage of female attorneys and percentage of female partners.
Gordon & Rees's strong year also manifested itself in its ranking on The American Lawyer's Am Law 200 list of the nation's top-grossing firms, moving up four spots to 110. The firm also ranked 19 for diversity among partnerships and 32 in the Diversity Scorecard. During the past 10 years, the firm has climbed more than 50 spots in the Am Law 200 and nearly 100 on the Diversity Scorecard. All four surveys were released during the past month.
"We are very pleased about our continued positive rankings which reflect our ongoing expansion," said Dion Cominos, firmwide managing partner. "Most importantly our growth has not occurred for its own sake but instead to allow us to best service our clients on a national stage with outstanding legal professionals and staff."
Also recognizing the firm's continued expansion, Law360 ranked Gordon & Rees as the 48th largest law firm in the U.S. in its 2017 ranking of the 400 largest law firms in the nation. In the past 10 years, lawyer count at the firm has increased by more than 230 percent, the number of offices has grown to 45, and the firm's national, regional, and local practices have quadrupled-all without merging with other firms or incurring any long-term debt.
Since 2000, Gordon & Rees has added more than 30 new offices, and now has a major outpost in eight of the 10 largest cities in the United States. In 2017 alone, the firm has opened seven new offices: Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Salt Lake City, Utah; Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Winning results, diverse lateral talent, cost effectiveness and the utmost level of responsiveness have helped Gordon & Rees achieve its long-term goal of becoming a national, full-service firm with offices in strategic locations key to its clients and their businesses.
The NLJ 500 data is collected from firms at the same time as the Am Law financial numbers. ALM sent surveys this year to more than 900 law firms to determine the 500 largest U.S.-centric firms by headcount. Lawyer totals are based on the average number of full-time equivalent (FTE) attorneys for the period between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2016.
Among the fastest-growing law firms in the country, Gordon & Rees is a national litigation and business transactions firm with more than 700 lawyers and 45 offices. Founded in 1974, Gordon & Rees has been recognized as a “Go-To Law Firm” for Fortune 500 companies.
