Chicago Partner Avanti Bakane has been elected to Vice President of Communications for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) Board of Governors. This is Bakane's second term as Vice President of Communications. On Thursday, November 8 she will be sworn in along with six other elected officers at a "Welcome Reception" during the 2019 NAPABA Annual Convention in Austin, Texas.
Bakane has served on NAPABA's Board of Governors for four years which includes her role as Central Regional Governor from 2016-2018 and her first term as Vice President of Communications from 2018-2019. She is also a member of Leading India's Future Today's (LIFT Foundation), a past President of the South Asian Bar Association of Chicago, and past Honorary Board Member for the Asian American Bar Association of Chicago (AABA).
Bakane currently is the co-chair of Gordon & Rees' South Asian Affinity Group and member of its Diversity Committee. Bakane also dedicates her time outside of the office to the community volunteering for several non-profit organizations to provide opportunities for underprivileged youth, end gender violence, and find homes for rescue dogs.
In her legal practice, Bakane is regularly retained by publicly traded and smaller companies in areas such as complex class action, antitrust, breach of contract, and general commercial litigation with a focus upon consumer class action defense. Her practice also includes representing businesses and creative professionals in software and e-commerce development, data privacy, data loss, licensing, and copyright infringement disputes. With experience in federal and state courts across the country, Bakane is a key asset in pre-suit negotiations, litigation, and compliance. She understands the importance of responsiveness, efficiency, and effective results to her clients.
