Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani Chicago partner Avanti Bakane, associate Benjamin Kinney and incoming associate Richard Daniels authored an article "A National Biometric Privacy Law Could Spur Litigation Wave," published by Bloomberg Law September 22, 2020.
In their article, the Gordon & Rees Privacy & Data Security attorneys examine a proposed federal counterpart to the Illinois biometric privacy law and obstacles it may present for defendants in privacy litigation. Additionally, they recommend companies and in-house counsel set policies and procedures on proper disclosure, collection, and destruction of biometric data.
Bakane is co-chair of the firm’s Privacy, Data & Cybersecurity group and a Certified Information Privacy Professional. Outside of consumer class action work, her practice consists of representing businesses and creative professionals in software and e-commerce development, data privacy, data loss, licensing, and copyright infringement disputes. Additionally, she has experience representing clients in the cannabis space.
Kinney is a member of the Commercial Litigation, Consumer Protection Litigation, Privacy, Data & Cybersecurity, and Cannabis Law practice groups. He has successfully represented clients in matters dealing with breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, consumer litigation, tort, and real estate.
Daniels is an incoming associate in the Chicago office of Gordon & Rees. Daniels has clerked with the firm throughout his law school years and will join the Commercial Litigation, Consumer Protection, and Privacy & Data Security practice groups.
