The “Judicial Edition” of the AV Preeminent Rating is awarded to lawyers based on the confidential opinions of not only their practicing peers, but also members of the Judiciary familiar with their work.
Schumacher first achieved the AV Preeminent rating in 2005. This rating is the pinnacle of professional excellence. It is acheived only after an attorney has been reviewed and recommended by their peers - members of the bar and the judiciary and represents the highest possible rating for both ethical standards and legal ability.

It used to be a sort of secret among attorneys who used the rating as a first screen when they needed to a hire a lawyer they did not personally know. For more than 130 years, Martindale-Hubbell has been evaluating attorneys for their strong legal ability and high ethical standards through a Peer Review Rating system. Prior to the 1887 edition of Martindale’s American Law Directory, which was the first publication to provide such ratings to attorneys, there was no way of truly knowing if the lawyer you were considering to do business with was trustworthy, ethical, or skilled in the legal field.
