Partner Julia Whitelock to Speak at Women in Subscription Virtual Event

Julia Whitelock, a Partner in Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani's Alexandria, VA office, will speak at the Subscription Trade Association's ("SUBTA") inaugural “Women in Subscription” a virtual event on September 24, 2020.

The event is sponsored by SUBTA, a community of innovators, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders dedicated to subscription e-commerce. “Women in Subscription” is a free virtual event that will feature insights and inspiration from 14 leaders in the subscription e-commerce industry, a virtual expo hall, and networking opportunities for attendees.

Ms. Whitelock’s presentation is geared toward e-commerce retailers that want to strengthen their brand and protect themselves from liability. Over 30 minutes, Ms. Whitelock will cover critical issues affecting subscription retailers: protection from regulator actions enforcing the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (“ROSCA”) and state auto-renewal laws; protection from consumer class actions with mandatory arbitration and class waiver clauses; and protection from copycat competitors by building a brand and enforcing copyright and trademark rights. Gordon & Rees shares a close relationship with SUBTA and its founders, who have expressed appreciation for Ms. Whitelock sharing her expertise with its community.

Ms. Whitelock is a Partner in Gordon & Rees’ Commercial Litigation, Advertising & E-Commerce, Intellectual Property, Consumer Protection Litigation, and Class Action practice groups. She advises and represents businesses on a variety of issues, including business and contract disputes, consumer class actions, trademark and copyright infringement, false advertising, and trade secret misappropriation. She has obtained successful outcomes for her clients at trial or arbitration, on appeal, and through settlement. Ms. Whitelock has defeated class certification in consumer-related cases in Maryland circuit courts and has settled individual and class consumer-related actions in federal court.
