The Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani Chicago office sponsored the Diversity Scholarship Foundation’s ("DSF") Unity Gala on November 30. The Unity Gala celebrates those individuals who have actively advocated and promoted diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. Partner Avanti Bakane, a past recipient of the Advocate for Diversity award, introduced the evening’s Unity Award winner, Emanuel “Chris” Welch, Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives.
"It's an honor to represent Gordon & Rees at the Unity Award Dinner, always an inspiring and celebratory night," said Bakane. "The true highlight continues to be awarding more than twenty DSF scholarships to diverse law students from across Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin who have already demonstrated a strong commitment to community service."
The Diversity Scholarship Foundation was established with the ideal that diverse law school student bodies are a means of ensuring further diversification in the legal community. To fulfill its mission, the Foundation seeks to financially assist underprivileged and under-represented minorities in attending law school by offering them scholarships. In addition to the Foundation’s own community-outreach programming directed at middle and high school students, the Foundation’s Board of Directors also present the annual Unity Award Dinner. The Foundation also provides financial support to programs and initiatives of various bar associations that are consistent with its mission of diversifying the legal community.
