Gordon & Rees Celebrates and Honors the LGBTQ+ Community

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani honors and celebrates our talented LGBTQ+ employees, clients, and allies year round, but with a special emphasis in the month of June. June is Pride month to commemorate the Stonewall Riots, which began on June 28, 1969, where police raided the Stonewall Inn in New York City, sparking a series of protests and igniting the modern gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights movement.

After the police raid of the Stonewall Inn, an uprising ensued representative of the anger from those being harassed that lasted several days. Supporters and activists continued to attend and protest peacefully. This spontaneous protest against discrimination, harassment, and brutality coalesced into a unified, intersectional movement, striving for equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals. The impact from this event is immeasurable. A year after the Stonewall uprising, the nation's first Gay Pride marches were held.

The firm remains steadfast in our commitment to pursuing equality for all as we build an inclusive workplace that not only accepts, but honors and appreciates the diversity of our members.  “I am very proud of our ongoing support for the LGBTQ community—a cause that we have championed for many years,” noted Firmwide Managing Partner Dion Cominos, “and we look forward to continuing to foster a culture of acceptance and inclusion at the firm where opportunities for advancement and success are fully available to all.”

Gordon & Rees looks to increase LGBTQ visibility and representation within the firm, and in the broader community at large. The firm’s LGBTQ Affinity Group’s mission is to highlight and address the unique issues facing the LGBTQ community, and to provide support and mentoring opportunities to its members. The Group also engages with regional and national LGBTQ organizations aligned with its mission.  For six consecutive years, Gordon & Rees has received a perfect score of 100 on the Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.  Gordon & Rees has also implemented its Leadership Equality and Diversity (“LEAD”) Program as part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to recruit, retain, and promote diverse attorneys to the highest positions of management and ownership at the firm.
