For the 2021 survey, the editorial team at Construction Executive reached out to attorneys at the nation’s top construction law firms to learn how the legal landscape has shifted, as well as how legal teams are assisting clients as they pivot in response to challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the continued refinement of contract language.
The rankings analysis was accompanied by in-depth articles detailing the major shifts in the industry over the past year. Ernie Isola, partner and co-chair of the firm's construction practice group, was asked what contractors should look for in a law firm when seeking legal representation, “a cohesive team that can effectively analyze and respond to complex legal issues as they arise, as well as evaluate the practical impacts and potential consequences of decisions.”
Angela Richie, partner and co-chair of the firm’s construction practice, was featured on the topic of effective dispute resolution. “I believe it is key to hold weekly change order meetings to resolve the disputes early when the change is fresh in everyone’s minds. After time, memories fade and, unfortunately, key people involved in the change leave the company, making it more difficult to resolve claims over time.”
Gordon & Rees is regularly recognized for its top tier construction practice throughout the United States. The group consists of lawyers nationwide who focus their practice on the comprehensive range of legal services required by all participants in the construction industry — architects, engineers, design professionals, design joint ventures, owners, developers, property managers, general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, product manufacturers, lenders, investors, state agencies, municipalities, and other affiliated consultants and service providers.
