Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani D.C. Partner Joe Meadows and Seattle Associate Amy P. Taylor are teaming up to teach a new CLE course on Anti-SLAPP laws for the D.C. Bar on Tuesday, May 17. Offered as a webinar, the course is available to anyone who registers, whether or not they are admitted to the D.C. Bar.
The introductory May 17 course is aimed at attorneys of all levels, and may be of particular interest to those starting out in the First Amendment area. Meadows and Taylor will provide a broad overview of anti-SLAPP laws and trending issues in the area. The hour-long course will explain the ins and outs of anti-SLAPP laws—what they cover, how they work, and what beginning practitioners should watch out for.

Meadows will follow the May 17 course with a more advanced course on Monday, June 27, along with First Amendment appellate attorney Greg Lipper of LeGrand Law PLLC. In the advanced two-hour course, Meadows and Lipper will take a closer look at several anti-SLAPP-law questions that have divided courts, flummoxed litigants, and otherwise complicated issues in this area. Topics will include differences in the anti-SLAPP laws among the states, how courts have analyzed whether anti-SLAPP laws apply when federal courts exercise diversity jurisdiction, the use of anti-SLAPP laws in employment and environmental disputes, and broader legal challenges to anti-SLAPP laws.
