Since announcing its new “GRSM50” brand this week, Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani has been featured in prominent legal publications such as The American Lawyer, Law360, The Recorder, ABA Journal, Attorney at Law Magazine, and General Counsel News.
"The main purpose of it was to raise awareness that we have this nationwide platform, which is unique and novel and certainly the first of its kind," Firmwide Managing Partner Dion Cominos told Law360 on Tuesday. "We wanted that identity to be embedded in the firm itself. By becoming GRSM50, that message gets across to the marketplace in a more direct and concise way."
Cominos said the name reflects the growing number of clients looking for a one-stop shop to handle matters across all 50 states. "What's happening in business is consolidation," he said. "People want to manage fewer points of contact and more consistency."
"The law is changing, and we're at the head of the pack in that change," shared Name Partner Miles Scully, who led the firm's 50-state strategy. "Most big companies are nationwide; we recognize they want to be serviced nationwide. We're seeing Fortune 500 companies driving their work to us ... as mass litigation takes off on the plaintiffs' side," Scully shared with The Recorder. "Corporate America has decided it's a disadvantage to try to fight litigation in 20, 40, or 50 states with 20, 40 or 50 law firms."
"We're the only law firm that can offer national," Scully said. "We've had major company after company bring us not just one case but thousands of cases, and that's been part of our explosion. It's been organic."
Cominos said the firm's recent growth "validates" its 50-state strategy, adding that a core value proposition of the firm is its ability to offer "seamlessness and consistency" across the platform.
GRSM’s accelerated growth trajectory began more than four years ago when the firm became the first law firm in history to establish offices in all 50 states. Since launching the 50-state initiative, the firm has grown from 850 lawyers to its current count of more than 1,200 lawyers. In 2021, the firm broke into the Am Law 100 rankings and was highlighted by The American Lawyer as one of the top firms for lateral partner growth. That growth has continued this year, with 270 attorneys joining the firm thus far in 2023. GRSM is currently ranked #88 on the Am Law 100 list and the 20th largest firm in the country by headcount, with over 50 diverse practice and industry groups in 75 national offices throughout the country.
