Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, the nation's first and only law firm with offices in all 50 states, welcomes Maggie Potter as Assistant Managing Partner of the firm’s Tampa office. She joins the Insurance and Commercial Litigation practice groups. Ms. Potter brings with her a vast array of insurance knowledge, leadership experience, and claims management skills from her 18 years in the insurance industry and has a keen sense of the business of law.
As a former licensed independent insurance adjuster and claims manager, Ms. Potter has devoted her legal practice to insurance defense, including extensive experience in all aspects of first party property insurance (residential, commercial, and business interruption), complex claims, coverage analysis, and policy evaluation and interpretation. Over the years, Ms. Potter has gained considerable experience handling bad faith matters and has made significant contributions in developing and overseeing general litigation strategies and approaches to hot topics and emerging trends in first-party property cases. Ms. Potter has experience with general negligence and premises liability defense, general civil litigation, and drafting policy forms. She handles matters throughout Florida and manages claims at all stages, from first notice of loss through trial. She also assists insurance industry partners with best business practices and claims handling.

A Florida native, Ms. Potter is a licensed instructor with the state of Florida and actively uses her years of experience and knowledge to provide training and continuing education courses to her clients and colleagues both on an individual as-needed basis and at annual industry conferences and functions across the country. She frequently presents seminars on a variety of topics, including case law and legislative updates, first-and third-party bad faith, insurance coverage, negotiations, and ethics.
She is a Leadership Board Member of the Association of Professional Insurance Women (APIW) Tampa chapter, and a member of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM), the Florida Defense Lawyer Association (FDLA), the Hillsborough Association of Women Lawyers (HAWL), and the Hillsborough Bar Association.
She is admitted to practice in Florida, the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, and the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida. Ms. Potter earned her law degree from Stetson University and her undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida where she was a member of the NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country and Track Team.
