Oakland Partner Mike Laurenson was recognized among Daily Journal's Top Labor & Employment Lawyers for 2023. This award acknowledges accomplished California attorneys for their work in labor and employment matters. This is Laurenson's second time receiving this honor.
During his 25-year career at the firm, Laurenson has represented public and private entities in employment matters in federal and state court, focusing on wrongful termination, retaliation, and discrimination claims.
"When I joined Gordon & Rees, we were 80 people in San Francisco and a handful in San Diego," said Laurenson, reflecting on how the firm has changed since he came on board. "I was lucky to hitch my wagon to Mike Lucey. He modernized by going to a practice group structure where partners had deep experience in their fields, and his was employment law. It's the best thing that ever happened to me. By my fourth year, he was letting me try cases by myself."
Laurenson is the leader of Gordon & Rees' Northern California Trial Practice Group and a member of the firm’s National Trial Practice Group. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. The Daily Journal also selected unanimous defense verdicts that he received in 2014 and 2015 as Top 10 Defense Verdicts in California for those years.
