Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani Partners Joseph T. Rivera Jr. and Jonathan A. Barnes were recognized in the Lawyers of Color Annual Hot List, which recognizes early to mid-career attorneys excelling in the legal profession. Honorees will be celebrated at a reception in Washington, D.C. on July 19, 2023. The full 2023 Hot List issue will be available later this year.
The honorees were chosen by a selection committee, including the editorial staff, fellows, and advisers, who spent months reviewing nominations and researching legal publications in order to identify promising candidates. The committee accepted nominations from mentors, peers, and colleagues. The committee also made editorial picks based on research of attorneys who had noteworthy accomplishments, giving special attention to candidates who were active in diversity pipeline initiatives.
Joseph T. Rivera Jr. is a partner in the New York office and a member of the Product & General Liability practice group with extensive experience in product liability, special education, and criminal litigation. He serves as a board member for various bar associations and legal affinity groups, including the Tufts Lawyers Association, Hispanic National Bar Association, and La Unidad Latina Law Guild. Mr. Rivera also works as an Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy at his alma mater, Fordham University Law School. As a litigator, he has negotiated numerous favorable outcomes for his clients and achieved favorable verdicts through both bench and jury trials.
Jonathan A. Barnes is a partner in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore offices of Gordon & Rees and is a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group with experience in construction, employment, professional liability, insurance coverage, and product liability. Mr. Barnes advises clients on a wide range of matters and assists in resolving, prosecuting, and defending against lawsuits, arbitrations, and appeals. He also has experience representing businesses and individuals in matters involving consumer protection, cyber security and privacy risks, breach of contract, fraud, negligence, and employment.
