GRSM Celebrates Asian American, Native Hawai’ian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month

GRSM proudly celebrates Asian American, Native Hawai’ian, and Pacific Islander ("AANHPI") Heritage Month to recognize the innovation, resilience, and pioneering spirit of AANHPI populations who have shaped American history. The origin of this celebration dates back to 1977 when Congress first passed a resolution to commemorate the accomplishments of AAPIs for one whole week, which later evolved into an expanded observance for one month beginning in 1990. The month of May holds much significance for innovation by AANHPIs, considering the first Japanese immigrants arrived on May 7, 1843, and the first transcontinental railroad in the United States was completed on May 10, 1869, with significant contributions from Chinese pioneers.

The 2024 National AANHPI Heritage Month theme selected by the Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC) is “Advancing Leaders Through Innovation.”  This year’s theme honors the visionaries and trailblazers who have made lasting contributions to our economic, technological, and social prosperity.

In celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month, we recognize our firm’s AANHPI leaders at all levels who continuously approach modern challenges with curiosity, invent creative solutions, and revolutionize legal practices. We further seek to preserve and grow the spirit of optimism, perseverance, and strength of our ancestors in navigating our collective future.

As part of our commitment to AANHPI Heritage Month, we invite all members of the GRSM community to actively participate in our diversity efforts. We encourage you to convene, collaborate, and commit to seeking innovative solutions. We also invite leaders to implement strategies that continue to promote equity and provide services responsive to diverse cultural practices. Most importantly, we invite professionals to explore the ongoing programs undertaken by GRSM’s Diversity Committee Affinity Groups, including the firm’s Asian American Affinity Group and South Asian Affinity Group. These programs offer a platform for discussions and action through professional development, mentorship, and education to promote innovation.
