Los Angeles partners Manuel Saldana and Gary Lorch, associate Spencer Hugret, and paralegal Randall Stubblefield were able to reach a multi-million dollar settlement on behalf of one of the largest spice companies in the world. The dispute arose when salmonella was found in a food additive, which enhances flavor in many foods consumed everyday, including the products of Gordon & Rees’s client based in Maryland. After consulting with the US Food and Drug Administration, the manufacturer of this food additive, from Nevada, voluntarily recalled all foods containing its additive, which caused millions of dollars in damages to Gordon & Rees’s client and its customers, as well as several other food producers across the country. Complicating the matter were issues related to the manufacturer's solvency and insurance, which could not cater to all the claims.
The LA team was able to present a valid claim and convince the manufacturer of the subject food additive to resolve this matter, recovering the majority of the client’s damages, without filing a lawsuit. The LA team has handled other nationwide “food recall” cases for the same client with similar multi-million dollar recoveries.
