Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani Los Angeles Senior Partner Stephen E. Ronk, Partner Nicole T. Lomibao, and Associate Steven Valenzuela obtained a complete defense arbitration award on behalf of GRSM’s client, the premier provider of payroll and related services to the entertainment industry.
The claimant, who was represented by a prominent employment law firm, was a former employee of GRSM’s client. She alleged that she was wrongfully terminated because of her disability, race, and/or complaints of discrimination and harassment. At the arbitration, the defense team was able to establish, among other things, that the claimant was laid off because of the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on business operations. The defense team was also able to establish that the claimant’s allegation that her supervisor made comments about her disability and race lacked credibility.
After a week-long arbitration and extensive post-arbitration briefing, the arbitrator issued a 98-page final award, finding for GRSM’s client on all thirteen causes of action asserted by the claimant.
