Annette Rose is a Partner with the Sacramento office of Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani and is a member of the Labor and Employment, Real Estate, and Retail and Hospitality Practice Groups. In her employment practice, Annette specializes in defending employers against claims of discrimination, retaliation, harassment, hostile work environment, and related claims. Annette is known for being responsive and attentive to her clients’ needs and takes a thorough approach in her defense of these matters. Annette has extensive experience in litigating before California state agencies, such as the Department of Civil Rights, OSHA, or the California Labor Commissioner, among others, as well as litigating in California state and federal courts. Annette also routinely provides advice and counsel regarding best workplace practices and drafts and revises employer policies for compliance or general changes in the law.
Annette’s employment practice also specializes in handling complex wage and hour class action claims under the California Labor Code and Private Attorneys General Act, a.k.a. PAGA, representative actions. Defense of such claims includes, but is not limited to, claims pertaining to minimum and overtime wages, regular rate issues, meal and rest breaks claims, inaccurate wage statements, and related derivative claims. As part of her practice, Annette routinely advises in changes in California law and trends in complex wage and hour litigation.
In addition to her employment law practice, Annette also has significant experience working with and advising hospitality clients, property owners, educational entities, and low income housing providers. Annette has worked for over a decade on housing issues in California – representing both tenants and landlords. She regularly provides advice and counsel with regard to landlord and tenant relationships, unlawful detainers, premises liability, breach of habitability claims, and the multitude of regulations applicable to property owners in all 50 States. Annette approaches housing and landlord-tenant matters with a practical and creative approach that aims to navigate and address the challenges and realities of providing housing in California.
Annette’s industry experience also extends to California administrative, water, and immigration law.
Between earning her Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor, Annette taught English as a Second Language in Southeast Asia, giving her practice a unique perspective. In her spare time, Annette enjoys spending time with her wife and their beloved dog, “Tilly Bear,” cooking, reading, and traveling. Annette is also involved in various community organization, including local and national LGBTQ+ legal and non-legal organizations.
