Miami partners Joseph A. Sacher and David M. Gersten were featured panelists at the 6th Annual Florida’s Grand Bench & Bar Conference at the Coral Gables Country Club in Miami, Florida.
Gersten actively participated on an appellate panel entitled, “What Appellate Judges Want Trial Lawyers and Judges to Know,” in which the former-Chief Judge of Florida’s Third District Court of Appeal joined several of his former colleagues, sitting Florida appellate judges, along with a sitting U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeal Judge. The panel presented various appellate topics and issues to appellate practitioners from the unique perspective of appellate judges.
Sacher also participated on a panel entitled, "Managing & Handling the Government Investigation," in which he provided guidance and insights on investigations conducted by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and similar regulatory authorities. He specifically explained the differences between government investigations and enforcements actions compared to civil and commercial litigation, including important consideration and issues from defense counsel's perspective. The panel also addressed other forms of governmental investigations and included former Assistant U.S. Attorneys, County Attorneys, and City Attorneys.
The event was the largest local bench and bar conference of any local bar in the nation, including 37 panels in more than 20 practice areas, featuring 190 Federal and State Judges, General Counsels, and distinguished practitioners. As many as 1,300 members of the Florida Bar attended the day-long event, conducted by the Dade County Bar Association.
