Raleigh Office Managing Partner Allison J. Becker and Senior Counsel Kendra N. Stark authored an article entitled "The Legal Implications of Hunger Strikes," published in The National Commission on Correctional Health Care’s Fall 2023 issue of CorrectCare magazine.
This article explores legal concerns surrounding hunger strikes, a common form of protest in correctional facilities, including how to ensure the patient’s constitutional rights are being protected and how health care professionals can best position themselves to defend claims or litigation that may arise from treating the patient.
Ms. Becker handles matters in a variety of state, federal, and appellate courts, focusing on health care and professional liability defense. She has extensive experience defending correctional medical, dental, and mental health providers across the country against Section 1983 deliberate indifference claims.
Ms. Stark focuses her practice on professional liability matters, including the defense of healthcare providers, veterinarians, attorneys, insurance agents and brokers, directors and officers, real estate agents and brokers, and architects and engineers.
